Today, we’ll compare two popular summer tyres: the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 and the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. These are from respected manufacturers: Yokohama and Bridgestone.
The Yokohama Advan Sport V107 excels with good traits on dry and wet surfaces, though it has slight weaknesses in aquaplaning. However, the tyre shows excessive wear, higher weight, and its estimated life span is just satisfactory. According to our rating, its overall performance scored 42%. Despite the lackluster rating, the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 sets itself apart with quick steering response and offers a fun and sporty driving experience. It excelled in dry handling during tests but depicted shortcomings in wet conditions stopping and performed roughly over potholes, indicating potential comfort issues.
On the other hand, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport shows very good characteristics on dry and wet roads with reduced tyre wear. Despite its higher weight and fuel consumption, it achieved the best results during tests and earned our rating of 89%. This Ultra Ultra High-Performance (UUHP) tyre shines in wet conditions, particularly in wet circle cornering and wet braking. However, it does display significant wear after rigorous circuit testing, suggesting potential longevity issues under severe conditions. The Bridgestone Potenza Sport also had a high rolling resistance and struggled with aquaplaning in deeper water.
When comparing their positions in mutual tests, Yokohama's tyre finished 6th out of 18 and 14th out of 52 in ADAC and Autobild tests, respectively. Bridgestone's tyre outperformed it significantly by securing 1st and 2nd positions in these tests. In general, the Potenza Sport is the obvious choice when prioritizing grip and sportiness, but it may show signs of quicker wear under high-stress situations. Those who prefer a more comfortable and budget-friendly tyre may find the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 a suitable option, though its performance in wet conditions is inferior.
None of these two tyres have been replaced with newer models yet. Overall, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport demonstrated superior performance in tests, but the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 still offers a satisfactory choice, particularly for drivers who prefer dry conditions and sportier handling..
