Today we are comparing two highly popular summer tyre models, the Pirelli P ZERO and the Kumho Ecsta PS91. Manufactured respectively by world-renowned tyre companies Pirelli and Kumho, these tyres are both sought after for their high performance.

Beginning with the Pirelli P ZERO, this maverick of a tyre is made in Italy and hasn't been replaced with a newer model. Across an array of tests, it is generally positioned high ranking, performing well in comparison with other tyres. In the ‘Sportauto’ test, it even took home the prized title of first position. Notable for its durability, strength and high quality, the Pirelli P ZERO proves to be a strong contender. However, the only con seen is the lack of our own rating, thus reducing measurable comparison.

Switching to the Kumho Ecsta PS91, which has a 21% rating by our team, is an Ultra Ultra High Performance (UUHP) tyre produced in Korea. Similar to Pirelli P ZERO, it has not been replaced by a newer model either. Unfortunately though, when tested alongside the Pirelli P ZERO and other tyres in the ‘SportAuto’, ‘Sportscars’, and ‘SportAuto’ tests, the Kumho Ecsta PS91 consistently took the seventh position despite a total of only seven to nine tyres in each test. It appears to fall short in comparative performance but is still highly popular for its incredible adherence even at high speeds.

In a head-to-head comparison, considering the overall test results, the Pirelli P ZERO seems to have a slight edge over the Kumho Ecsta PS91. Despite the challenges, keep in mind that suitability to a specific car type and driver requirements could be a game-changer. It's also worth mentioning that part of the Pirelli performance advantage in tests could relate to being an original equipment tyre – a point more to their engineering prowess than their suitability to any individual car.

Finally, tyre choice should be based on a balance of performance, cost, and personal preference. Each of these tyres boasts of strengths that cater to different people depending on their needs. Whether it is the Pirelli P ZERO's dominant test performance or the Kumho Ecsta PS91's high-speed stability, your choice should essentially depend on which strength aligns with your requirements.
