The following comparison focuses on two high-performance, summer tyres: Firestone Firehawk Sport and Nexen N Fera Sport, both made by reputable manufacturers Firestone and Nexen respectively.
The Firestone Firehawk Sport tyre, made in Italy and rated by us at 76%, has shown good performance in multiple tests. In the ADAC test, it held a strong 7th position out of 18 tyres tested. The Offroad 2018 and Sportauto 2023 analyses showed that it excelled in dry and wet road performance, offering a smooth ride with reduced rolling resistance. Its strengths included its light weight and lower fuel consumption. However, slightly weak performance in aquaplaning situations, higher abrasion, and a not-so-high predicted service life were indicated as minor downsides. Despite these minor cons, the Firestone Firehawk Sport still proves to be a reliable choice.
Conversely, Nexen N Fera Sport, manufactured in the Czech Republic and rated at 67% by us, comes as the original equipment for the BMW 2-series Active Tourer. Although it came in at 10th in the ADAC test and last in the SportAuto test, it still has some redeeming features. The tyre showed good aquaplaning reserves, short braking distances, and a low rolling resistance, providing a decently comfortable ride. But, critics found the tyre falling short of expectations in the area of wet and dry handling, citing its sluggish steering response and lack of dynamism as minuses. Even though it's not the top performer, it remains a cost-effective alternative for BMW 2-series Active Tourer owners.
Comparing these two, the Firestone tyre comes out as the more preferable option due to its higher overall performance in multiple areas. But, if price point and vehicle compatibility are sensitive factors, the Nexen N Fera Sport tyre could still be a practical choice.
Note: Neither of these two models have been replaced by newer tyres at this time.
To make an informed decision, it is advised to consider individual driving conditions, habits, and specific vehicle requirements alongside these test results. Regardless of your choice, both Firestone and Nexen offer a range of high-quality tyres designed to suit various driving needs.
