We are comparing two popular tyre models, the Firestone Firehawk Sport and the Michelin Pilot Sport 5. These two models are both designed for summer use and have a reputation for delivering superior performance.
The Firestone Firehawk Sport is a ultra high performance tyre manufactured in Italy. Our site rates this tyre at 76%. The strengths of the Firestone Firehawk Sport include good handling on both dry and wet road surfaces and lower weight leading to reduced fuel consumption. Firestone, a trusted tyre manufacturer, however, did show some weaknesses in aquaplaning tests and has a higher wear rate. In mutual tests, it ranked 7th out of 18 tyres in the ADAC test and 9th out of 13 in the Autobild test.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, on the other hand, is an ultra ultra high performance tyre. We've rated it at a significantly higher 96%. This tyre is a newer model, replacing the previous Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and Michelin Pilot Sport 3. One of its main strengths lies in its overall balanced performance, with excellent handling on both dry and wet surfaces. It also featured very high predicted mileage with low wear. Its weaknesses include slight issues with aquaplaning. In performance tests, it ranked higher than the Firestone Firehawk Sport, securing the 3rd position in both the ADAC and Autobild tests. Despite this, it does come at a higher cost. The manufacturer's details can be checked out here.
In conclusion, both tyres have their strengths. If you're more budget-conscious, the Firestone Firehawk Sport could be a good option. However, it's worth noting the higher wear rate. Meanwhile, if you're seeking superior performance and willing to pay a higher price, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 seems to offer a more advanced and balanced experience. Keep in mind that individual driving styles and vehicle types can influence tyre performance too.
