When it comes to the summertime performance of tyres, the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 and the Maxxis Premitra HP5 are some of the top contenders. Manufactured by Continental and Maxxis respectively, these are products that have competed in multiple tire tests across various platforms.
In terms of individual features, the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 scored a 68% rating by our team, and registered remarkable strengths in interior noise, wet braking, wet circle cornering and wet handling. This tire, made in Czech Republic was found to be especially good in the wet braking and handling categories, making it a dependable option for summer rains. However, it must be noted that this model has been replaced by the Continental PremiumContact 6.
On the other hand, the Maxxis Premitra HP5, scored higher with a 78% rating. Its best feature was found to be wet braking. But it doesn’t have a replacement model, making it a consistent choice for drivers over the years.
Focusing on comparative test data from multiple platforms such as Autobild, Autoklub, Gute-Fahrt and ADAC, it is clear that both tyres have their individual merits. Out of 51 tyres tested in Autobild, Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 secured 5th place whereas Maxxis Premitra HP5 achieved 9th position. Despite being tested among fewer tyres in Autoklub, Gute-Fahrt and ADAC, Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 managed to secure the first position in Autoklub and Gute-Fahrt and a good 3rd position in ADAC. Maxxis Premitra HP5 secured the 2nd position in Autoklub, but then slipped down to the 7th place in Gute-Fahrt and 15th in ADAC test.
In conclusion, if we consider the overall test positions and where they rank in terms of features, the Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 seems to offer better value due to its excellent performance in wet conditions and interior noise reduction, despite being replaced by a newer model. However, the Maxxis Premitra HP5, with its superior rating and wet braking feature, remains a strong choice for those seeking consistency and reliability in the summer tyre category.
