In our comparison today, we will look at the Barum Bravuris 5 HM and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2. Both these tyres are manufactured by well-known global brands; Barum and Dunlop respectively, and are designed for summer use.
Starting with the Barum Bravuris 5 HM, our rating for this summer tyre stands at 39%. In comparison to the total of 50 tyres tested by Autobild, the Barum Bravuris 5 HM ranked rather low at 42. Meanwhile, in the ADAC test, it occupied the 15th position out of 17.
On the other hand, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, a UUHP summer tyre, has received a significantly higher rating from us, at 72%. In the Autobild test, it secured a respectable 17th position out of 50, and in ADAC's test, it was 6th among 17 tyres. The tests highlighted "Aquaplaning - longitudal" and "Comfort" as its best features.
The ADAC 2019 tests summarised that the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 has secure driving properties on wet roads, good aquaplaning qualities, and short dry braking distances. However, it was noted that there was some delay in steering response on dry roads. Similar observations were made by the Autobild 2022 tests; it confirmed the tyre's excellent aquaplaning qualities, precise wet handling, and short wet and dry braking distances, along with good rolling comfort, and fair pricing. Yet, exceptions were made about its somewhat delayed steering responses on dry roads.
Verdict: In tests, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 has consistently proven to perform better than the Barum Bravuris 5 HM. When considering factors such as aquaplaning qualities, steering response, and dry/wet handling, we can conclude that the Dunlop tyre is a more reliable and superior option, despite a minor disadvantage concerning steering response on dry roads.
As of now, none of the tyres in this comparison have been replaced with a newer model.
