Firestone VAN summer tyres - market overview, tests, reviews

Origin: USA
5 models Avg. rating: 7.0 #1 Firestone Roadhawk 2

From Firestone’s broad summer range we have chosen just a few tyres based on the most recent independent tests. The focus here is on two models that have been repeatedly measured by European magazines and organizations in 2023–2025.

Firestone Roadhawk 2
The Roadhawk 2 is the successor to the original Firestone Roadhawk, and it continues the line as a mainstream touring summer tyre made in Italy. In 2024 Autozeitung rated it “highly recommended” in 225/45 R17, noting its well-rounded road manners. In 2025 it delivered “satisfactory” results in both Auto Bild (215/55 R18) and Tyre Reviews (225/50 R17). Auto Bild highlighted very strong aquaplaning reserves and good driving dynamics, and pointed out that Firestone itself also recommends this tyre for electric vehicles. The main trade-off mentioned was a clearly limited projected mileage. Overall, Roadhawk 2 has proven consistent across tests, with wet-safety headroom that stands out in its class, offset by wear expectations that are merely average.

Firestone Firehawk Sport
Firestone’s UHP summer option, also made in Italy, has built a solid record with multiple recent tests. ADAC (2025, 225/40 R18) rated it “good,” praising its grip on both dry and wet roads, low weight and low fuel consumption, while noting slight aquaplaning weaknesses and a not-so-high predicted mileage with higher abrasion. Sport Auto (2023, 225/40 R18) awarded a “very good,” emphasizing precise turn-in, reliable wet grip, balanced dry handling and the lowest rolling resistance in the field, but pointing to deficits in cornering aquaplaning. Auto Bild’s verdicts were more conservative: “satisfactory” in 2023 (225/40 R18), where it combined agile dry handling with short wet and dry braking and very low rolling resistance but showed average aquaplaning performance and a delayed steering response on wet; and again “satisfactory” in 2025 (245/35 R19), citing only moderate wet handling and wet braking. The tyre also appeared in Auto Bild’s 2025 braking-distance comparison in 225/40 R18. In short, Firehawk Sport targets drivers who want efficient rolling and balanced, sporty road behaviour, with the caveat of average aquaplaning reserves and wear.

Firestone Summer - Lineup at a glance

Where each model sits, what it is tuned for, and how the models trade off

Firestone is Bridgestone's value brand, and its current summer car range is short and clearly split: the Firehawk Sport is the sporty UHP option for drivers who want sharp steering and dry grip, while the ENLITEN-based Roadhawk 2 is the everyday touring tyre built for class-leading wet grip, longer mileage and low rolling resistance.
