Let's explore the details of two popular tyre models: the Nexen N fera Sport and the Falken Azenis FK510. These tyres are produced by renowned manufacturers, Nexen and Falken, respectively.
The Nexen N fera Sport, a summer tyre made in Czech Republic, is known for its Ultra High Performance (UHP) and is even used as first equipment on the BMW 2-series Active Tourer. Its highlights include excellent longitudinal aquaplaning, good wet braking and low exterior noise levels. It has an overall rating of 76% on our site. However, the tests show some lack in sporty ambitions and side guide characteristics on wet surfaces. Despite these minor shortcomings, it stood out in numerous test categories like dry braking, exterior noise, and wet handling. In the GTÜ test, it claimed the top position among 9 tyres.
On the other hand, the Falken Azenis FK510, made in Japan and Turkey, is a reliable summer tyre with a good price-value ratio and superior comfort. Notably, this model has recently been replaced by the Falken Azenis FK520. Despite its better aquaplaning cross and lower rolling resistance, it scored lower than the Nexen N fera Sport in our rating, with an overall score of 74%. In the Autobild test, it ranked 15 out of 50, and in the AutoMotorSport test, it performed slightly better than Nexen by claiming the 8th position. The ADAC test underscored its excellent wet handling and mileage, however, it also indicated deficiencies in dry braking balance and response behaviour.
Both tyres have showcased very good aquaplaning characteristics and comfortable external noise levels. Notably, the Nexen N fera Sport is a more stable and easily controllable tyre on dry roads, while the Falken Azenis FK510 seems to offer higher safety reserves during aquaplaning and has shorter dry and wet braking distances.
In the final verdict, the Nexen N fera Sport shines with its superior performance in terms of dry handling and comfort, making it an ideal choice for drivers who prioritize control and stability. Conversely, the Falken Azenis FK510, despite its lower overall score, offers remarkable aquaplaning safety, comfort, and value for money, marking it as a solid overall choice for summer driving.
