When it comes to choosing tyres, the decision can seem overwhelming due to the range of models and brands available. In this comparison, we will be looking at two models: the Kumho Ecsta HS51 and the Michelin Primacy 4, which are both summer tires.

The Kumho Ecsta HS51, produced in China, is a good-quality budget tyre. Noteworthy are its excellent wet handling and aquaplaning characteristics, which have been highlighted in various tyre tests. It also offers good value for money, an important factor when looking for new tires. In terms of performance in tyre tests, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 tends to perform well, with positions like 3rd out of 53 in the Autobild test and 7th out of 10 in the Teknikens test. However, it has since been replaced by the newer Ecsta HS52 model.

In contrast, the Michelin Primacy 4, manufactured in Spain, Germany, and Poland, is a high-end tyre offering excellent dry braking, comfort and wet handling as the most mentioned strengths. Its superior quality and performance result in high ratings, with a score of 89% in our evaluation. Its performance in tyre tests also mirrors this, topping the Teknikens and ADAC tests, and coming 2nd in the Autozeitung test. This tire is great for those prioritizing safety and fuel efficiency. It has since been replaced by the Michelin Primacy 4+.

Based on tests results, both tyres have their strengths. The Kumho Ecsta HS51 excels in wet conditions, offering excellent handling and aquaplaning resistance. However, the Michelin Primacy 4 outperforms it in various other aspects such as comfort, fuel efficiency and dry braking, making it an overall better-performing tyre.

In conclusion, if you are on a budget or drive mostly in rainy conditions, the Kumho Ecsta HS51 could be a good option for you. However, if you require a top-performing all-rounder and don't mind spending a little more, the Michelin Primacy 4 might be a better choice.
