Which winter tires should be considered for a 2025 MINI Countryman JCW ALL4 with the stated specification 245/40 R20 99V XL, driven mainly in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany?

Hello, for your driving around Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, I would shortlist the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3, subject to checking the exact specification with MINI. Goodyear’s German catalog lists a 245/40 R20 99W version with wet-grip class B. In ADAC’s 2025 test of 225/40 R18 92V, it achieved the best wet-road rating. However, the 2026 test in 225/50 R17 98V rated it good on wet roads but only satisfactory for hydroplaning in corners and winter-road performance. These results do not establish a winner in 245/40 R20. I would compare wet braking, hydroplaning and snow performance together. The EU wet-grip label measures wet braking, so it cannot replace a fuller assessment of handling and hydroplaning. Before ordering, ask MINI or your tire specialist to check the proposed tire against your car’s Certificate of Conformity and manufacturer requirements, including size, load and speed ratings and XL specification.
