Nokian VAN summer tyres - market overview, tests, reviews
Nokian's summer tyre lineup covers everything from mainstream UHP fitments to dedicated van rubber, and rather than list every model in the range, we've focused this overview on the handful that stand out in recent independent testing. Below you'll find how these tyres have actually performed on the test track — where they excel, where they fall short, and which are worth prioritising depending on what you drive.
The standout of the range is the **Nokian Powerproof 2**, a UHP tyre manufactured in Finland that has now replaced the original Nokian Powerproof. It has racked up a strong and consistent set of results across 2026 testing. Motor named it an outright test winner on 235/55 R18, crediting it with the shortest wet braking distance in the field (29.7 m), the best longitudinal (86.6 km/h) and lateral (73.1 km/h) aquaplaning resistance, and joint-best interior quietness — with only average rolling resistance holding it back from a clean sweep. Die Reifentester likewise rated it "good" on the same size, praising its class-leading lateral aquaplaning margin, strong wet handling and solid wet braking (34.0 m), though they flagged noticeably weaker dry braking (35.7 m) and a slightly noisier, less settled ride on rough surfaces. Autobild's 245/45 R19 test reached a similar verdict: excellent braking on both wet and dry roads, sharp dry handling and low rolling resistance, tempered only by comparatively softer overall wet performance. Autoexpress, testing the smaller 205/55 R16 size, confirmed the aquaplaning strength (2nd-best in both tests) and composed wet cornering, though it slipped to 7th in outright wet braking and cornering grip in that particular field. Taken together, this is a tyre that performs strongly wherever it's tested, with wet-weather aquaplaning resistance as its clearest signature strength.
The **Nokian WetProof** is a more budget-oriented option that, as its name suggests, is built around wet-road confidence. It has been tested repeatedly since 2021, with a fairly consistent "good" rating from organisations including ADAC and Autozeitung — ADAC praised its balanced, efficient performance on both dry and wet tarmac, though it also noted weaknesses in mileage, abrasion and environmental impact. An earlier ADAC test on a different size returned only a "satisfactory" score, and GTÜ rated it highly recommended in 2021, so results do vary somewhat by size and test year, but the overall picture is of a competent, no-frills summer tyre rather than a class leader.
For commercial and van applications, the **Nokian Cargoproof C** is worth a mention. In Promobil's 2026 van tyre test on 225/75 R16, it earned a "recommended" rating on the strength of very short braking distances on both wet (27.4 m) and dry (41.0 m, the best in the test) tarmac, along with above-average cornering stability. Its main weaknesses were reduced reserves at large steering angles and comparatively loud pass-by noise (71.7 dB). For fleet operators or van owners prioritising short stopping distances above all else, it's a strong candidate.
Beyond these three, Nokian's range also includes the **Hakka Blue 3**, which hasn't featured as prominently in recent comparative tests but remains part of the brand's current summer tyre offering.

Where each model sits, what it is tuned for, and how the models trade off
Nokian's current summer car range is built around two pillars: the Powerproof line for sporty high-speed handling and the Wetproof line for wet-weather comfort and touring safety. Both are engineered for Central European roads and are suitable for electric vehicles.
