Continental has received original-equipment approval for its EcoContact 7 summer tyre on the electric Škoda Elroq. The factory setup uses different 20-inch sizes on each axle: 235/50 R20 at the front and a wider 255/45 R20 at the rear. Continental’s 28 July press release states that both versions include a rim-protection rib and will be fitted in multiple markets.

Two axle-specific sizes for the Elroq

The staggered arrangement combines the same tyre family with a 20 mm wider rear section. Continental has not published a performance comparison with the Elroq’s other factory tyre options, so the announcement should be read as an approval and supply decision rather than evidence that one setup is faster or more efficient than another.

The FR marking denotes an integrated rim-protection rib: a reinforced section of the sidewall designed to reduce the risk of cosmetic wheel damage if the tyre brushes a kerb. It does not make the wheel immune to impacts, but it is a useful detail on large 20-inch rims with relatively shallow sidewalls.

Golf-ball dimples applied to a tyre sidewall

Continental’s main technical talking point is its “Aerodimple” sidewall. Small indentations, inspired by the surface of a golf ball, are intended to limit turbulence behind the rotating tyre. The manufacturer says this reduces the energy needed to keep the vehicle moving, although the Elroq announcement gives no percentage improvement or additional range figure.

The EcoContact 7 is designed around low rolling resistance, mileage and low rolling noise. Continental says its compound and construction reduce internal energy losses, while the spacing and angles of the tread blocks target noise frequencies that are especially noticeable at low urban speeds. These characteristics are relevant in an electric SUV, where tyre noise is less likely to be masked by an engine.

Another electric-car fitment for the EcoContact 7

The Elroq approval expands an OE portfolio that already includes the electric Nissan N7 and the electric Renault Twingo. The dimensions and vehicle tuning differ between those applications, so an EcoContact 7 approved for one model is not interchangeable with an Elroq-specific size.

For Elroq owners, the practical replacement reference is therefore the complete sidewall specification—235/50 R20 100H FR at the front and 255/45 R20 101H FR at the rear—not just the product name. Continental has not announced replacement-market prices or said whether this 20-inch staggered setup will be fitted to every Elroq trim in every country.
