Apollo Tyres has launched the Altrust Winter, a new European winter tyre for vans and light commercial vehicles. According to the company’s press release, the tyre carries an A rating for wet grip and a B rating for external noise at 72 dB. It is on sale in Europe from July 2026.

15 sizes for common European vans
The range covers 15 sizes for 15- to 17-inch wheels. Apollo says this gives the Altrust Winter applications for vehicles including the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Iveco Daily. The launch completes the Altrust commercial-vehicle family alongside the Altrust+ summer tyre and Altrust All-Season.

Tread design targets water, snow and wear
Apollo attributes the winter performance to a multi-pitch tread layout and three-dimensional sipes. The blocks use different sizes and spacing, while the thin sipes create additional biting edges. Lateral grooves across the centre and shoulders are intended to move water away from the contact patch and reduce aquaplaning risk. These are manufacturer claims rather than results from an independent comparative test.
For durability, the company says the compound combines polymers and fillers chosen to resist abrasion. Reinforced shoulder tie-bars are designed to keep the contact patch consistent under load and promote even wear across the tread. Apollo also says it adjusted pitch lengths, their sequence and shoulder-block bridges to control external noise.
Where it fits in the market
The Altrust Winter enters a specialist category that already includes products such as the Michelin Agilis Alpin, Continental VanContact Winter and Goodyear Cargo UltraGrip 2. Udyan Ghai, Apollo Tyres’ group head of marketing, said the company’s development team in Enschede, the Netherlands, spent more than two years on the tyre. For van drivers and fleets, the practical points are the broad 15-size launch range, the A wet-grip label and a design focused on durability.
