A offroad/allterrain (A/T) winter tyres - market overview, tests, reviews

1 models Avg. rating: 0.6 #1 Atlas Polarbear UHP

Budget and mid-range tyres from brands beginning with "A" cover a surprisingly broad spectrum of performance, and the selection here reflects a carefully chosen cross-section based on recent independent test results — not every available model makes this list, only those with meaningful test coverage that allows for a fair assessment.

The **Avon ZX7** is one of the longer-established entries, having appeared in test programmes as recently as 2026, where it placed 30th in an Autobild large-scale braking comparison, and as far back as 2021, when Tyre Reviews ranked it 8th out of the field. That spread of results tells a nuanced story: the ZX7 is not a standout performer at the top of the class, but it has demonstrated a degree of consistency across multiple independent evaluations over several years, which is more than can be said for many budget offerings that disappear from test programmes after a single outing.

The **Apollo Aspire 4G** has similarly accumulated test data across multiple years and sizes, appearing in Autobild braking comparisons in 2017, 2023 and 2024. Across those three appearances, its position in the field has hovered in the lower mid-range — 21st, 30th and 25th respectively — suggesting a tyre that delivers broadly acceptable results without troubling the front of the pack. For buyers prioritising value over outright performance, the Aspire 4G represents a familiar and tested option.

The **Apollo Alnac 4G** has the most extensive test history of the three, but also the most critical feedback. ADAC's 2023 evaluation rated it satisfactory and highlighted a notable imbalance: while the tyre showed reasonable efficiency figures, testers recorded clear weaknesses on both dry and wet surfaces, a relatively low predicted mileage and above-average wear — two of those findings were significant enough to result in formal deductions in the scoring. An earlier ADAC test in 2021 had also rated it merely satisfactory. The Alnac 4G suits cost-conscious buyers with low annual mileage, but drivers who regularly encounter mixed conditions or motorway use should weigh the compromises carefully before committing.
